Girvan Academy

Girvan Academy

Situated in rural South West Scotland, we serve the community of Girvan and its surrounding villages.

We pride ourselves in providing a vibrant and innovative learning experience for all our pupils.

With 42 teachers and over 50 support staff, we ensure that attainment is high and pupils receive quality learning. Due to our size, we know our pupils well and can tailor their learning to suit their needs.

An Authority base for young people with moderate learning barriers is part of the school. We are inclusive with young people joining mainstream classes, with support, wherever possible.

We are fortunate to have the support of local businesses and employers, as well as voluntary organisations in our area. Through joint working, we are able to offer a broader range of opportunities to develop pupils’ skills and promote citizenship opportunities.

Through providing leadership experiences, our young people grow in confidence and develop a sense of self belief. Many of our pupils become peer tutors, providing support and learning opportunities for pupils in school and within the extended community.

We have a long established partnership with Columba 1400 and each year staff and pupils travel to Staffin, Skye to participate in a week long values based Leadership Academy.

Our young people benefit from a range of international visits. A long standing exchange programme with Mockelngymnasiet school in Karlskoga, Sweden is now extended through ERASMUS to include schools in Italy and Spain.

Previously pupils have trekked in Nepal and carried out voluntary work in Nepalese schools and are now planning a visit to Zambia. We also offer International ski trips, cultural visits and a range of sporting opportunities.

Many visitors to our school comment on the quiet, industrious environment for learning. Staff and pupils live by our values of Respect, Trust, Honesty, Responsibility and Ambition and these values are core to creating the safe and welcoming ethos that is Girvan Academy.

A word from our Head Teacher, Elaine Harrigan

Providing quality teaching and high attainment for our young people is important to us, but your child will also benefit from an education based on our values of Respect, Trust, Honesty, Responsibility and Ambition.

Through participating in a wide range of leadership opportunities, your child will grow and develop into a young person that we can all be proud of.
