Ethos and Aims
Physical Education (Core) is studied by all pupils through their school life because of its importance in terms of developing:
- A healthy attitude towards physical fitness
- The physical skills of the pupil.
- The social skills and social awareness of the pupil
- The worthwhile use of leisure time.
- Affective development (personal/social development)
However it is studied in much greater depth in Standard Grade which is offered in S3. In S5/S6 PE offers two distinct courses – PE Studies and PE Performance. There is some overlap, and both courses are, for the most part, taught within the same class the aims of these courses are as follows:
- To improve practical experience of Physical Education through active and demanding participation in a challenging and rewarding environment.
- To give students a broad perspective on their performance and to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in the way they plan and manage their training to improve performance.
- To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a specific aspect of performance and how they relate to overall improvement of performance.
